The Sydney cricket season approaches with the NSW Blues and Sydney Sixers preparing for a demanding campaign across the metropolitan venues. Here is what to expect as the 2026-27 season kicks off.
The NSW Blues have begun their pre-season training ahead of the Sheffield Shield campaign, while the Sydney Sixers are finalising their BBL squad. Both teams are targeting strong performances at the Sydney Cricket Ground, which hosts the majority of Sydney's domestic cricket fixtures.
The Blues' squad has been reshaped following the recent state selections, with several young players earning contracts. The Sixers have retained their core group while adding new talent through the BBL draft. Both teams are expected to be competitive across the upcoming season.
The Sydney Cricket Ground remains the centrepiece of Sydney's cricket infrastructure, with a capacity of approximately 48,000 for cricket fixtures. The ground has undergone several upgrades in recent years, including improved spectator amenities and media facilities. Transport for NSW has confirmed enhanced public transport services on match days, with additional train and bus services operating to and from Central Station.
The SCG also hosts international matches, and the ground's schedule for the 2026-27 season includes several marquee fixtures. Ticket sales for the international season are expected to open in the coming weeks.
The Blues' bowling attack will be crucial to their success, with the pace attack expected to benefit from the SCG's pitch conditions. The Sixers' batting lineup will need to perform consistently in the BBL's compressed format. Both teams have strong coaching setups and are targeting finals appearances.
