The latest NSW National Parks local alerts for the Katoomba area show a rolling program of closures affecting some of the most popular walks in the region. Honeymoon Bridge is closed due to rockfall hazards, while Fern Bower walk is closed for track repairs between the Amphitheatre track and Leura Forest until 30 October 2026.
The Three Sisters walk itself is open but with a temporary detour via Spooners Lookout due to a fallen tree branch. The walk remains wheelchair and pram accessible along the concrete pathway from Echo Point to Oreades lookout, though the detour adds an extra section of uneven surface.
Honeymoon Bridge, which connects the first sister to the valley floor via the Giant Stairway, is closed until further notice due to rockfall hazards. This closure cuts off the standard descent to Federal Pass and the valley exit via Golden Stairs. Visitors should use alternative access via Fern Bower, Giant Stairway or Scenic World, though the latter carries a ticket cost.
The impact of wet weather and geological instability extends beyond the Three Sisters precinct. Mount Hay Road will remain closed until 17 December 2026 for major fire trail upgrades, cutting access to Lockleys Pylon, Fortress Ridge, Butterbox Canyon and Mount Hay Summit. Roberts Pass is closed due to rockfall and landslide hazards, as is part of Lindeman Pass below Gladstone lookout.
Fletchers lookout is closed for maintenance until 28 August 2026, while Lincolns Rock is closed indefinitely pending council works. The Six Foot Track is closed at the boundary to the Jenolan Caves Karst Conservation Reserve, with no access to the entire reserve until 31 December 2026.
Despite the closures, several alternatives remain open for visitors wanting to experience the Blue Mountains without the Three Sisters descent. Prince Henry Cliff walk between Katoomba and Leura offers cliff-edge views and passes Echo Point, with access via the northern side of the Round Walk. Conservation Hut at Wentworth Falls provides a base for shorter loops, while the Grand Cliff Top Walk remains open for two-day self-guided itineraries between Wentworth Falls, Leura and Katoomba.
