Sydney Contemporary returns to Carriageworks from September 3 to 6 for its 10th edition, marking a significant milestone for Australasia's premier contemporary art fair. The five-day event brings together more than 100 galleries from nine countries and over 500 artists.
The fair, supported by principal partner MA Financial Group, has grown from a modest regional gathering into the largest and most diverse contemporary art event in the region. This year's edition features five days of discovery, conversation, collecting, and spectacle across the vast 19th-century railway workshop that is Carriageworks.
The 10th anniversary edition extends beyond the fair floor. Sydney Contemporary presents new public installations at Sydney Fish Market and Pier Pavilion, before continuing through 14 large-scale installations at the fair itself, curated by José Da Silva, Director of UNSW Galleries.
Reko Rennie's project ALWAYS (2026) at Sydney Fish Market questions the politics of visibility and brings histories of Aboriginal culture and identity to the waterfront precinct. The installation extends his distinctive visual language of geometric patterning and urban iconography.
COMA gallery, heading towards its own 10th year of operation, presents a comprehensive group exhibition spotlighting leading voices in contemporary Australian and international art. The booth includes international artists who have never shown in Australia, reflecting the gallery's commitment to bridging local and global art scenes.
CHALK HORSE, established in 2007 as an artist-run initiative, marks a defining moment in its trajectory. The gallery is launching an upstairs Viewing Room above its William Street gallery and CHOK MAA, a Bangkok-based residency and curatorial platform.
The fair also features Art + Dine, an artist-inspired cocktail series, and VIP Preview events on September 2. Opening hours run from 11am to 5pm on weekdays, with extended evening sessions on Thursday and Friday.
Sydney Contemporary has become a fixture in the Australian cultural calendar, attracting collectors, curators, and art enthusiasts from across the region. The 10th edition represents a maturation of the fair's ambition and scope.
